7 Best Beaches on Kauai’s North Shore

Did you know that Kauai has 111 miles of coastline, and that over 50 percent is made up of sandy beach? This is good news for travelers like you! Take your pick of dozens of gorgeous spots, including numerous beaches within a short drive of Hanalei Bay Resort. Here are our favorite places to swim, surf, and sun on the North Shore.

Hanalei Pavilion Beach Park

If you enjoy long walks on the beach, sandcastle building, or simply relaxing on the sand, check out Hanalei Pavilion. This beach is located just before Black Pot Beach on Weke Road.

Hanalei Pier

This is one of the most popular beaches on Kauai, largely because the protected bay makes it a great place for the whole family to swim, surf, and bodyboard. There are lifeguards in designated areas. The pier is about a half-mile north of Hanalei Pavilion.

Pine Trees (Waioli Beach Park)

If you love to surf and bodyboard, don’t miss Waioli Beach Park, also known as Pine Trees. The shaded beach has two permanent volleyball courts and lifeguards. Swimming is not recommended.

Anini Beach Park

Anini is popular for windsurfing, snorkeling, and playing in the water. The water is more shallow here than at other beaches, and an offshore reef keeps the surface relatively calm. Trees and pavilions provide ample shade. Look out for the strong current in the marked channel near the boat ramp.

Ha’ena Beach Park

Ha’ena Beach Park is located within walking distance of Tunnels Beach on Maniniholo Bay. The strong waves make is less ideal for swimming and surfing, but the gorgeous scenery is hard to beat.

Tunnels Beach

This famous beach was featured in the 1958 movie South Pacific. Today, it’s a tourist favorite and a great spot for snorkeling and diving. The sparkling blue water is complemented by a lush mountain landscape, making this the ultimate Kauai beach.

Ke’e Beach

Ke’e is one of the loveliest spots on the island and a definite “must see.” Take a short walk along the lagoon for incredible views of the Na Pali Coast at sunset. The snorkeling here is excellent in the summer, when the water can be as calm and clear as a swimming pool. The beach facilities include restrooms and showers. There is no cell reception, so make sure to bring some change for the payphone.
